R3DIMENSION 3D Printing Service – Frequently Asked Questions
Technical answers to some of the most common questions about our industrial large-format 3D printing service.
What size parts can R3DIMENSION manufacture?
R3DIMENSION specializes in large-format 3D printing and can manufacture parts over one metre in a single print.
Depending on the machine and application, we can manufacture parts within build volumes of up to 1120 x 720 x 620 mm or 1000 x 1000 x 1000 mm.
This allows many large components to be produced as a single piece instead of being divided into several smaller sections.
For geometries larger than the available build volume, we can evaluate whether the part can be divided into suitable sections for manufacturing and assembly.
What materials are available for large-format 3D printing?
We work with a wide range of thermoplastics for functional prototypes, tooling and end-use industrial parts.
- ABS
- ASA
- PETG
- PLA
- PA and Nylon
- Engineering thermoplastics
- Fiber-reinforced materials when suitable for the application
The best material depends on the mechanical, thermal and environmental requirements of the part.
If the material has not yet been defined, our team can recommend a suitable option according to the intended application.
Can you manufacture functional end-use parts?
Yes. Our 3D printing service is not limited to visual prototypes.
We manufacture functional components, tooling, manufacturing aids and end-use parts intended to operate under real working conditions.
The material and manufacturing parameters are selected according to the mechanical, thermal and dimensional requirements of each application.
Large-format FDM can be particularly useful for low-volume industrial components where conventional tooling would involve higher costs or longer lead times.
Can you print large ABS or ASA parts?
Yes. Large ABS and ASA components are common applications of our industrial 3D printing service.
Printing these materials at large scale requires good thermal control because ABS and ASA contract as they cool.
Our large-format systems use heated build platforms and controlled build environments to reduce warping and improve dimensional stability.
The final feasibility of a part depends on its geometry, wall thickness, orientation, material grade and dimensional requirements.
What information do you need to provide a quote?
To prepare a quotation, we normally need the 3D model of the part and some basic information about the project.
- 3D file in STL, STEP, 3MF or similar format
- Required quantity
- Preferred material, if already defined
- Intended application
- Important mechanical or thermal requirements
- Required dimensional tolerances, if critical
- Required delivery date
If the material or manufacturing strategy has not yet been defined, you can send us the part and explain its intended use.
Our team can evaluate the geometry and recommend a suitable manufacturing approach.
How quickly can I receive a quotation?
Our objective is to provide quotations within 24 hours whenever the information supplied is sufficient to evaluate the project.
More complex parts may require additional technical review before a final quotation can be prepared.
For urgent projects, please indicate the required delivery date when submitting your files.
How is the price of a large-format 3D printed part calculated?
The price depends on several factors rather than only the external dimensions of the part.
- Material consumption
- Printing time
- Part geometry
- Wall thickness
- Infill percentage
- Support material
- Number of parts
- Post-processing requirements
- Production urgency
Two parts with similar external dimensions can therefore have very different manufacturing costs.
Sending the 3D model is the most reliable way for us to calculate an accurate quotation.
Do you offer post-processing or finishing?
Post-processing options depend on the material, geometry and final requirements of the project.
Typical operations can include support removal, basic finishing, assembly preparation and other project-specific operations.
If a particular surface finish, machining operation, painting process or dimensional requirement is needed, it should be specified when requesting the quotation so that we can confirm feasibility and include it in the project scope.
Can you manufacture multiple units or short production series?
Yes. In addition to one-off prototypes, we can manufacture short production series and repeated batches.
Our large-format IDEX systems can use independent printheads and Copy Mode for suitable geometries, allowing two identical components to be produced simultaneously.
For larger quantities, the production strategy can be optimized according to part size, material, required delivery date and available machine capacity.
Do you ship large 3D printed parts internationally?
Yes. We manufacture parts at our facilities in Spain and can arrange shipment to customers in Spain, Europe and international destinations.
Shipping requirements depend on the dimensions, weight and fragility of the final component.
Large parts may require reinforced packaging, custom boxes or palletized transport.
Shipping costs and the appropriate transport method can be included in the quotation when the delivery destination is provided.
What industries use R3DIMENSION’s 3D printing service?
Our large-format 3D printing service is aimed primarily at professional and industrial applications.
- Automotive
- Industrial manufacturing
- Tooling and molds
- Marine applications
- Architecture and large-scale models
- Exhibitions and displays
- Functional prototyping
- Custom machinery and equipment
